The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
