Supporters Call for Detainment of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are urging that a man who breached a barrier and touched the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of fans had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two very different characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, securing a pair for outstanding attire and set decoration.
