Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
